Outdoor Life is challenging its readers to test their skills in a series of pursuits called the Outdoor Life Grand Slam Adventures. Developed to give readers the chance of a lifetime, Outdoor Life's Grand Slam Adventures provide an opportunity to take multiple species of game all on a single hunt.

Western Slam
Outdoor Life Grand Slam No. 1 saw our winner, Stuart Littlefield, join Editor-in-Chief Todd Smith on a quest for elk, pronghorn, mule deer and grouse in our Western slam. The hunt took place with Elkhorn Outfitters in northwestern Colorado.

Turkey Slam
For our second adventure, Outdoor Life Hunting Editor Andrew McKean accompanied winner Shawn White on the road trip of a dozen lifetimes on their quest for a wild turkey Grand Slam. And to take this endeavor to an even higher level, Shawn had to tag his four birds in just nine days.

An outdoor cameraman, courtesy of Realtree, captured all of the action on video. That’s right, besides publishing the story of this exciting quest in issues of Outdoor Life, all of the action was caught on tape and webcast on the Turkey Grand Slam page. Some footage will also appear in a future Realtree All-Stars of Spring DVD.

Alaska Slam
Grand Slam Adventure No. 3 took place in September 2008 in the wilds of Alaska! Here, Brandon Steele accompanied Alaska hunting expert and OL contributing writer Chris Batin on a 12-day hunt for brown bear, caribou and black bear. Hunting upland gamebirds and jump shooting for waterfowl were also be part of the Alaska slam, with fall fishing as a bonus. The result was a truly unforgettable adventure.

All arrangements were handled through Chris Batin’s Alaska Hunter Publications. Hunts were provided by Lost Creek Company, Alaska Raft and Kayak, and Hidden Alaska Guides and Outfitters. Part of this hunt was a river float trip while the other part took place in the higher alpine region. Outdoor Life covered all travel fees and tag fees for one brown bear, one caribou, one fishing/hunting license and one black bear/wolf tag. Truly a hunt of a lifetime.

Africa Slam
Our first adventure on a continent other than North America--and our fourth overall--took place in June 2009. Outdoor Life’s Senior Editor John Taranto accompanied winner Tim Wagner on a seven day plains-game safari for six trophies including Southern Greater kudu, gemsbok, impala, warthog, duiker and blesbuck.

The hunt was arranged through Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures, with the fully guided hunts provided by African Silwane Hunters and round-trip airfare supplied by South African Airways. Outdoor Life Photo Editor Justin Appenzeller captured all of the action on film. Another incredible Grand Slam in the books.

Colorado Slam
In November 2009, Outdoor Life Grand Slam Adventure No. 5 brought John Stanley to Colorado, accompanied by Editor-in-Chief Todd Smith. Situated on 23,000 acres in western Colorado, Kessler Canyon lived up to its five-star billing, providing a guided hunt for elk, a one-on-one five-stand shooting range experience with an Olympic trap medalist and a spa treatment (certainly a first for Grand Slam Adventures). John finished off his dream hunt by catching a few rainbow trout during an all-out snowstorm. And after the weather backed off he enjoyed some first-class bird hunting for chukars and pheasant.

Montana Slam
Jim Ewing has been selected as our Montana Grand Slam winner. Jim will be traveling to Alder, Montana, along with Hunting Editor Andrew McKean in November for a seven day hunt, Big Sky Country style. This adventure will include an elk and deer hunt with Upper Canyon Outfitters and Advantage Backcountry Outfitters. Elk hunting will take place out of a classic wall-tent camp, and whitetail hunting will be along the productive Ruby River. If Jim can notch his big-game tags, upland bird hunting and trout fishing will be a bonus.

Outdoor Life will be sending a photographer/videographer along, so you’ll be able to see all of the action yourself on outdoorlife.com/grandslam.

New Mexico Slam
Welcome to Tierra del Encanto (Spanish for “the Land of Enchantment”) and your chance to hunt the Southwest. One lucky Outdoor Life reader will have the opportunity to hunt for elk and grouse, enjoy a sporting clays experience and attempt to catch the elusive Rio Grande Cutthroat on our latest Grand Slam Adventure. The New Mexico Slam will include round-trip airfare and a nine day trip in the rugged San Juan Mountains of northern New Mexico, where you’ll enjoy guided hunts and fine cuisine from The Lodge and Ranch at Chama Land & Cattle Company.

One of Outdoor Life’s editors will accompany the winner on this adventure of a lifetime. We’ll also provide a cameraman to capture all the action, and the still photography and video will be posted on outdoorlife.com.

Our lucky winner will be outfitted with premium gear from our partners, Mossberg, Leica, Cabela’s, Nosler, Garmin and Plano.
