The “Outdoor Life Grand Slam Adventures” were developed to give a reader the chance of a lifetime, an opportunity to take a certain number of species of game in a one-week time period. Our participant will try to complete a “Western Slam,” taking a mule deer, an elk, a pronghorn and a grouse over a one-week span in late October. The hunt will take place at Elkhorn Outfitters in northwestern Colorado. Does participating in this contest sound too good to be true? Well, pinch yourself. It could be you.
The participant in the Outdoor Life Grand Slam Adventure won’t have to go it alone, either. He or she will be accompanied by an OL editor and a professional outfitter, who will guide the lucky winner throughout the hunt. Also tagging along will be a camera crew to record the participant’s every hit (or miss).
The results of the hunt will be followed in the pages of OutdoorLife and on outdoorlife.com, where viewers can get updates from the field, track the participant using GPS and learn more about the equipment they will be using for the various species.

Providing the Fire Power
The adventure begins with new gear—the best equipment, firearms and ammunition will be at the winner’s disposal, starting with the most durable rifle on the planet, chambered for the hardest-hitting, flattest-shooting .30 in history. Your Remington Model 700 XCR in .300 Ultra Mag will be fed new Remington Power Level Ammunition, so you can incrementally tailor performance to the species and terrain you’re hunting. That’s right: One rifle for every species on your Western big-game dream hunt.

Rocky Mountain Elk - Power Level III
The Elkhorn Outfitters adventure begins with the pursuit of the majestic elk. With approximately 3,000 ft-lb of energy at 200 yards, Power Level III will flatten the biggest, toughest game, even at extreme range. Simply put, there’s no surer way to turn a bugle to backstraps.

Mule Deer — Power Level II
Upon completion of the elk hunt, the pursuit of the mule deer starts with the switch to Power Level II ammunition. Relax with time gained from not having to hit the range between hunts, since points of impact between Power Levels is within 2 inches at 200 yards. And with downrange velocity and ballistics that mirror the .300 Win Mag and .300 WSM, .300 Ultra Mag Power Level II is ideal for elk- to mule-deer-sized game at extended range. Point of impact between .300 Ultra Mag Power Levels is within 2 inches at 200 yards. (Power Level I, Power Level II, Power Level III)

Pronghorn Antelope — Power Level I
With telescopic vision and speed unmatched by any North American game animal, the pronghorn evades many experienced hunters while grazing the country’s most open terrain. .300 Ultra Mag Power Level I provides the optimum ballistics for your antelope hunt and is ideally suited to everything from pronghorn to whitetails. Its performance mimics the .30-06—the caliber credited with dropping more big game than any other. Do your part on the stalk and the trigger squeeze, and that antelope’s good as den décor.

Sharp-tailed Grouse Model 105 CTi™
Swinging on a pair of flushing grouse is a dream of just about every wingshooter. For many, it never comes to fruition. Capitalizing on just such an opportunity is what the Remington Model 105 CTi™ was built for. It’s the lightest, softest-shooting 12-gauge autoloading shotgun Remington has ever produced, so it’s a safe bet your vision of a rising grouse will be followed by a four-legged retrieve. The bottom feed and eject “Double Down” system will keep the ejecting shell from impeding your peripheral vision for that second shot as well.
