OUTDOOR LIFE TIP //

Remove any dirt or mud that has built up around the brakes

BRAKE PADS //

  • When the brakes are applied, the master cylinder, caliper and the caliper piston cause these replaceable friction pads to push against the rotor

TRACTION CONTROL //

  • Check the friction surface for uneven wear, grooves or small stress cracks caused by excess heat
  • Grooves in the friction surface are an indication of worn down brake pads or of debris lodged between the brake pad and rotor
  • Check to make sure that the rotor is within specifications before and after the resurfacing
  • A rotor with heat stress cracks should be replaced

BRAKE HARDWARE //

  • Check for corroded, bent, worn out or broken springs, guide pins or clips
  • Damaged or worn out brake hardware can cause uneven wear on the new brake pads
  • To ensure the best results from your brake job, the brake hardware should be replaced with the new brake pads

Tire Care Rotate your tires every 6,000 miles (or every other oil change). Make sure the tread is evenly worn as bald tread can make it hard for tires to grip the road and perform well.

Water Hazards Check depth before fording; water should be no deeper than bumper height. Drive slowly in water and cross streams at a 90-degree angle to minimize turbulence.

Flush Coolant Flush your cooling system at least once a year. When refilling the system, use a mixture of antifreeze/coolant and water. Typically a 50/50 mix is recommended.
